Since I’ve let people know that I’ve written a book — which I am currently revising, endlessly, it seems — people who I would never have thought would have any interest in sitting down to write a book have revealed their book ideas to me. And usually, their ideas originate from what they are passionate about or an injustice they’ve experienced. Always, it has an educational component to it, they want to pass on knowledge they’ve acquired.
My book idea came from a passion of mine. If you know me well, you will not be surprised to hear what it is: the environment and the animals that live within it.

I am a strong advocate for the environment. So much so that I have only taken jobs that work to protect it. I am an engineer that specializes in the treatment of wastewater, and I have been in this field for over 20 years.
I also wanted my book to have a slight educational theme with respect to environmental issues. Why not slip in a few words that my readers might learn (or might have learned) in science class, like molecule, chemical bonds and heat transfer along with magic?
I came up with this idea more than 10 years ago, during the George W. Bush era, before people started acknowledging that climate change was occurring. I had hoped to at least teach young people that they have the responsibility of making their own judgements and not just take someone else’s word for it, no matter how powerful they may be.
Because we have other beings, who have no voice in the debate, that are depending on us to make the right choices, even if they are really hard ones.

I heard a comic speak about saving the Earth and they made a very good point–the Earth will remain and adapt whether we clean up our act or not. When they stay save the Earth, they mean save the creatures living on it. 🙂

Yes. Unfortunately, it is often those that have no voice that suffer the most from our failed policies.

We are not just saving them; we are saving ourselves. 🙂
